I've recently taken on one of the biggest projects of my career as an artist for the Parade of Hearts. This has been my first experience working with glass, sculpture, and an entirely new creative process. It's been a learning opportunity is more ways than I can say and I'm so grateful for this experience. Throughout the process, I've received a lot of comments, questions, and concerns. Here, I'm sharing more in-depth details about the project, the process, and what's to come. THE PROJECTWhat is this for? The Parade of Hearts, a Heartland Celebration What is the Parade of Hearts? The Parade of Hearts is a collective art initiative that will place various heart sculptures throughout the KC Metro Area in early Spring 2022. How many hearts are there? There are 154 hearts designed by 123 artists. Each heart will be a vision that is unique to each artist and their experience of 2020 and 2021. What happens to the hearts at the end of the Parade? All of the hearts will be auctioned in June with funds distributed to four area organizations: Alt-Cap, Mid-America Regional Council, University of Kansas Health System and Visit KC Foundation. PARADE OF HEARTS, A HEARTLAND CELEBRATION To learn more about the Parade of Hearts, visit https://theparadeofhearts.com. THE PIECEWhat's the name of it? In Reflection How big is it? Roughly 5½ feet by 5½ feet. What is it made of? Originally formed out of plexiglass and then primed, my heart was made using 1" x 1" square mirrored glass tiles and construction adhesive to create a desired disco ball effect. THE PROCESSWhat was the inspiration? The initial scope of the project was to illustrate a heart form to reflect your own experience of 2020 and 2021. My heart was inspired by a disco ball that I placed in the corner of my home office. Every day at sunrise and sunset, the sun would hit the ball just right to explode light across my office. This offered small moments of joy throughout my day. In connection to 2020, this piece is a physical illustration of our experiences in quarantine. Left alone, we were encouraged to reflect upon ourselves and our communities. The mirrors represent that internal reflection while the reflected light fragments illustrate the outreach of support, empathy, and understanding to our communities. How many tiles are on it? An estimated 6,500 tiles were used, each one placed by hand. How long did it take? The original form was picked up in November of 2021 and returned in late February of 2022. At least 60 hours were needed to complete this piece. Can we see it? Absolutely! Guests will be able to photograph and interact with the pieces as they're placed around the city. Where will it go? We don't know yet where our hearts are going. More details to come. Stay tuned! Big, huge, sincere thank you to everyone who has encouraged and supported my art over the years. I truly couldn't do it without you. Here's to many more projects to come! Stay tuned as more details will be announced. What began as mostly as a resource for graphic design and marketing, Sevenelle quickly became an outlet for me to express my love of travel and capturing the world around me. I began participating in art shows and selling my photography around the KC area at events including Strawberry Swing and First Fridays in the Crossroads Art District. Although Sevenelle is not full time, I hope to grow my business to sustain a creative lifestyle. I love design, typography, photography, and all things creative, and found Sevenelle to be a dream come true I didn't know I had. I'm excited for this journey and I can't wait to share more opportunities and experiences as they come. Thank you for all of your support! I couldn't do this without you. ♡ Jess

Happy holiday shopping! In honor of World Photo Day, we're sharing some of our favorite shots from Kansas City and around the globe. What are some of your favorites? Share in the comments below! This was of my favorite hikes through Lagos de Covadonga, Picos de Europa. We were completely surrounded by mountains and what sounded like wind chimes, though we found later that they were bells on the cows roaming the fields below. We hiked with people from all around the world, including one man with a trombone, and took a moment to share the same breathtaking view. Witnessing the mountains rolling into the distance in every direction just reminds you of how small you really are and it's an incredible experience. We ventured out to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art for Third Thursday, a celebration honoring the works of Jackson Pullock and many other artists of the abstract expressionism movement. This installation by Luis Tomasello entitled Chromoplastic Mural, caught my eye because the longer you stare at it, the more you see. From the beginning, everything looks to be placed at random, but inspecting it longer, you start to see patterns and that each piece was placed with intention and purpose. This is only a close-up of the wall-spanning artwork, but I highly recommend taking a trip to the contemporary wing to see for yourself. As we wandered the streets of Porto, we found the personality of the city is not only in its people, but in its stores, buildings, and architecture. This business in particular caught my eye for the simplicity of their identity, the typography of their logo, the illustration of their signage, and the blue of their exterior. Everything about this storefront relates to my own aesthetic and I felt an immediate connection. Researching more, Typographia is an international collaborative project for artists, designers, and printers to create art and t-shirts to share with the world. My brother and I had spent the day at Oceans of Fun, to enjoy the last few weeks of summer. As we walked out to the car at the end of our day, I looked up to find the Mamba making an ascent to the top of its iconic first drop. The serenity in this photo is what caught my attention - the stark contrast of a thrilling structure against a washed, empty sky. On our way out of Potes, we stopped for breakfast at a place that was empty of people, but full of personality. Something as simple as a car out front had struck me because it was different than the automobiles we're accustomed to here in the States. Someone's personal mode of everyday transportation had suddenly become something so intriguing. I was fascinated and completely enamored with even the most mundane of Spain and can't wait to plan another trip. Standing on what felt like the edge of the entire world, we found ourselves at the most western point of continental Europe at Cabo da Roca, Portugal. The view was completely breathtaking, and not just because of the absolute terror that any misstep could lead to a sheer drop down the face of the cliff to the rocks below. It was surreal. We were as high, if not higher, than the clouds that rolled across the restless sea as it slammed the rocks of the shoreline, but everything was somehow quiet and still. To think this is all still happening now, today, all day, every day, still, my breath escapes me. One of my favorite places in the world I've been to, so far. Our Airbnb accommodations in Sintra, Portugal were nothing short of spectacular. From the artwork, to the architecture, to the hammock on the patio outside, to the courageous puppy that would stand watch on the roof, just to see who was coming home. I loved every single bit of it. This was a piece in our bathroom, something so simple: a white pitcher hanging by its handle to carry a bouquet of flowers. It was a moment of simplicity that somehow enthralled me. It's the little things in life that can mean the most and sometimes, you just have to stop and smell the roses.
